EUG developed a new concept for a new kind of garden in the city. The proposal has been looked at Trafalgar Square suggesting a different dynamic to this iconic public site, a hanging garden that would live in the heights above the square and where Horatio (Nelson) could finally live among regular people. The project was developed in collaboration with URBAN SALON in London. VIDEO.

Composite Bench System

“It is very hard to come up with a new typology in furniture and more often than not the result remains very strongly in the realm of a suggestion to rethink existing options, but rarely does a new configuration present itself as a useful addition to the family of furniture. The composite bench/sofa does so by merging the bench height table structure with elements of upholstery.

The visual impact is two fold, first it seems like a kind of upholstered Japanese garden, with serene chiselled structural cushions in abstract relations to each other, but on second look and in use the organisation reveals itself to be a comfortable seating arrangement that is also open to additional uses such as placing things, such as books or bags alongside the seats at usable table height. This is a mature piece of design from the experimental mind of designers El Ultimo Grito; it conveys an understanding of the importance of the visual presence that is the role of lobby furniture while offering the user a special sense of space. It is a piece of design that has a sense of versatility also in regards of its intended markets. It will look good in museums, and may fulfil the needs of corporate entrance lobbies but it also offers an attractive piece for domestic surroundings. In terms of industrial design there is some clever thinking in terms of creating a striking piece with simple production elements. The back rests are separate cushions which allow for a wider range off configurations, from the traditional arrangements to the more spatial pieces which can be sat on from any direction.”
